Stress Solution

By Erin Stokes, ND

STRESS-250x-250Stress. It’s such a common complaint that it’s rare to find someone who says they are not under stress. The American Psychological Association’s “Stress In America” ™ survey in 2014 looked at the relationship between stress and healthy behaviors (1). It found a clear correlation with stress negatively impacting sleep, exercise and eating habits. As practitioners we strive to advise our patients about healthy lifestyle and nutrition strategies, and yet the underlying cause of stress can unravel even the best laid treatment plans.

We know that we need to help our patients manage stress more effectively, and there are a variety of ways to do this. For a botanical solution, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is at the top of my list.* A plant with thousands of years of traditional use in India, it is now a proven plant ally in modern times.*

Adaptogenic herbs help patients deal with the negative effects of stress.

While some adrenal adaptogens are quite specific to certain presentations, I consider Ashwagandha to be a “broad spectrum adaptogen”.* It is often the foundation of any treatment protocol that I recommend to nourish the adrenal glands.* The plant supports resistance to fatigue and stress, and provides the necessary components to strengthen and nourish a healthy nervous system.*

Sensoril® ,a patented extract of Ashwagandha, has been clinically shown to support healthy levels of cortisol, a stress response regulating hormone.* This goal of balancing cortisol is an important part of a comprehensive adrenal support plan. Ashwagandha is an excellent choice for the common state of being “tired and wired”; being physically exhausted but too wound up to experience a sense of relaxation or get restful sleep at night.*

Does this “tired and wired” profile sound like any of your patients?
